ABSTRACT
The insecticidal activity of yellow flamboyant, Peltophorum pterocarpum (DC.) Heyne. floral extract against the rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) was evaluated by usingcontact and fumigant bioassays. The potential insecticidal compound isolated from the P. pterocarpum was Sitosterol- - D-glucopyranoside tetraacetate. The LC50 values of the Sitosterol- - D-glucopyranoside tetra acetate in contact and fumigation mode were observed as 27.16 and 66.54respectively. Bergenin is reported earlier from this plant however, other compounds isolatedQuercetin-3-O-rutinoside and Myricetin-3-O-galactoside along with insecticidal compound Sitosterol –β-D-glucopyranoside tetraacetate for the first time from the Peltophorum pterocarpum.
